DC Migration to Azure
Learn how an MSP in Kansas City used Inputiv services to migrate the local Domain Controller from three different sites to one centralized location in Azure.

Business Problem
The MSP's client needed to migrate from a local Domain Controller across three sites to Azure AD. They lacked the in-house expertise to execute safely without risking data loss, and needed all users working from home to access corporate resources via seamless SSO post- migration.
Our Solution
We architected a phased Azure AD migration with parallel running of on-premise and cloud DCs to ensure zero downtime. Conditional Access policies were configured, hybrid join was established, and all three sites were cut over in a single maintenance window.

Discovery & Inventory
Audited all three sites — hardware, users, GPOs, DNS settings, and Group Policy. Documented current AD schema and dependency mapping using ITGlue.

Deployed Azure AD Connect in staging mode. Configured directory synchronisation, tested password hash sync, and validated user UPNs before go-live.

Hybrid Join & Conditional Access
Enrolled all existing Windows devices into Hybrid Azure AD Join. Set Conditional Access policies to enforce MFA for external access across all three sites.

GPO Migration & Intune Policies
Translated existing Group Policy Objects to Intune Configuration Profiles. Tested policy application on a pilot group of 15 users before full rollout.

Cutover & Go-Live
Executed cutover during a Saturday maintenance window. Decommissioned local DC after 48-hour parallel run. All users verified working on Monday morning.
