Business Problem

Following a corporate merger, the organisation needed to consolidate two Microsoft 365 tenants into one. The goal was to migrate all user mailboxes, Teams data, SharePoint sites, and OneDrive content — plus transfer the primary domain from GoDaddy — with no email downtime and no data loss during business hours.

Our Solution

We executed a cross-tenant migration using Microsoft's Cross-Tenant Migration tooling, pre-staged all mailboxes for 24 hours before cutover, performed domain transfer out-of-hours, and completed the full migration in a single weekend window — all users reported full functionality Monday morning.

Project Plan

Tenant Inventory

Audited source tenant — all users, mailboxes, Teams, SharePoint sites, and licensing. Mapped users between source and destination tenants.

Pre-Stage Mailboxes

Used Microsoft Cross-Tenant Migration tool to pre-stage all mailboxes into the destination tenant over 24 hours — users experienced no change during this phase.

Domain Transfer

Coordinated GoDaddy domain transfer and MX record cutover during a Friday night window. New MX TTL was pre-lowered to 300 seconds to minimise mail queue time.

Final Cutover & Verification

Completed final mailbox sync, updated all Outlook profiles, verified Teams and SharePoint access. All users verified and signed off by Sunday evening.
